I'm very excited to get my dress for Romancing Williamsburg this week. Costumed affairs are wonderful, because it is very easy to start conversations. Not surprisingly, people who choose to spend their careers (or hobby time) playing with dreams on a computer screen or swallowing pallets of books whole tend to be more introverted than the average Jane.
The right dress is essential. Getting a decent costume and and affordable custom made option is often similarly priced. I chose this gown because the overskirt suggests panniers, without me having to buy more period underwear. Lisa was wonderful to work with, suggesting different lacings and making the dress to my exact measurements. I will be drooling over the creations in Heritage Dressmakers for years yet.
